This park is named in honor of Obetz Mayor D. Greg Scott. Mayor Scott was
raised on Obetz Avenue and attended the Obetz Elementary School, which
stood on this site from 1923 to 1966. Although the school closed in 1966,
the original school gymnasium, lunchroom, and stage still exist in the
building behind you. Mayor Scott went on to graduate from Hamilton
Township High School in 1974. Mayor Scott was a proud Obetz resident who
passionately served as an Obetz Zucchinifest volunteer from 2001 until his
passing in 2021. Mayor Scott also served Obetz as a volunteer board
member for the Obetz Cemetery Board from 2002 to 2012. Continuing his
public service, Mayor Scott served as a commissioner on the Obetz Planning
& Zoning Commission from 2005 to 2019 where he helped to guide many projects, including the
Creekside and Centerpoint developments, bringing thousands of new jobs to Obetz. Mayor Scott
was elected to the Obetz Council in 2008, a seat previously held by his mother Delores Scott from 1994 through 1997. As a councilman, Mayor Scott helped to develop many new opportunities for Obetz residents including the Obetz

Athletics programs, the Obetz Athletic Club, and the Obetz Conference Center. Mayor Scott continued his commitment to his hometown by serving as Mayor of Obetz from 2012 through 2019. In this role, Mayor Scott was instrumental in the continued development of Obetz and oversaw the expansion of the Obetz police force, the development of Fortress Obetz, the additions of Braehead Park, the Obetz Splashpad/Ice Rink, Area 51 Disc Golf Course, the Obetz Conference Center, Dixon Quarry, and the Dixon Pavilion. Mayor Scott's legacy of public service will forever benefit the residents of Obetz.
