Carcross in Unorganized, Yukon — The Northern Territories (North America)
A Matter of Safety
| | SS Tutshi Memorial | |
When the restored SS Tutshi caught fire in July 1990, the new lifeboats were not yet on board. The three other boats built for the restoration project later found a home on the MV Tahrane in Atlin, British Columbia.
Geoffrey Bidlake stands in front of a lifeboat on the SS Tutshi in 1836. Note the 17-person capacity. The four lifeboats may not have room to fit all passengers and crew, but because the Tutshi traveled only inland waters, the shore was never far. The lifeboats could make multiple trips to get everyone safely ashore.
