1. The Georgetown House Marker
Inscription. The Georgetown House is closely linked with the history of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal. The building was constructed about 1830 by the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Co. for use as a storage room. Later it became a tavern, but shortly thereafter turned into a stable. The horses and mules drawing the barges were stabled below while the drivers lived above.
