Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
Millspaugh Porch Swing
This swing and viewing spot pays tribute to Meredith P. and Martin L. Millspaugh, Jr. who, together, dedicated their lives to revitalizing downtown Baltimore. They were early believers that Baltimore was a unique destination with the historical, cultural and commercial character to attract people of all ages, for work and play.
Always a cheerleader for the city, Meredith founded the Downtown Discovery touring company and volunteered with a dozen historic arts and environmental civic organizations. Martin worked tirelessly for 25 years as CEO of Charles Center-Inner Harbor Redevelopment (1960-1985) to plan, design, finance and construct the Inner Harbor. He was described by the Baltimore Sun as "a builder who can get things done, but also a planner thinking in decades, an arbiter of taste improving the city's looks and a public thinker, always aware that his real clients are the citizens of Baltimore." He later worked on waterfront plans in 90 cities on 5 continents.
Porch Swing made possible by generous gifts from family and friends of Meredith P. and Martin L. Millspaugh Jr.
