Jardin des Ambassadeurs
Jardin des Ambassadeurs
2005
Ambassadors' Garden
2005
The Ambassadors' Garden is one of the squares of the Champs-Élysées. Its history dates back to 1616, when Marie de Medici decided to create a landscaped driveway on a plot of marshy land. In 1670, André Le Nôtre designed the Avenue des Beaux-Arts Champs-Élysées. Until the beginning of the nineteenth century, only six houses were built there. The garden dates from 1859, when Alphand rearranged the route in the English style. The Gabriel Pavilion and the Théâtre des Ambassadors, built by Hittorff in 1841, and the Élysée pavilion, Belle Époque style, built by Ballu in 1900, punctuate the Marcel Proust Promenade.
