Das frühere Hirtenhaus
⎯⎯⎯
Former Shepherds House
Inscription.

One of the oldest houses in Gräfenhausen - once probably inhabited by shepherds
The house with a half-hipped roof was built in 1787 according to an inscription on a beam. One noteworthy feature is that space between the beams in the half-timbering is filled with bricks.
The building was indicated as being for shepherds. In the Middle Ages, in the early modern period and well into the 19th century, the offices of the community shepherds were associated with the possibility of living in a barn, which used to belong to the community's castle. A house for cow and pig herders was mentioned in Gräfenhausen as early as 1665. There were also many other shepherds (e.g. horse herders).
Nearby is the tithe barn, which used to belong to the castle. The tithe was stored there. This was the tenth part of the harvest that the farmers had to hand over - as a kind of tax.
