Grand Salon
Originally this room was used as a family room. John Wayne would bring his SAG screeners and watch movies while on trips. The furniture is authentic from these days; the settee was used as a sort of couch and the table was used to play poker with the Rat Pack. The wet bar and soda fountain, which the kids say never worked properly, is also original. The large mural on the wall was commissioned by John Wayne and depicts a naval battle of Admiral Nelson. The movie posters and pictures of The Duke were not here originally; he previously would use this room to hang plaques that he received from his travels.
To take home all of the rich history of the Wild Goose, ask a crew member about purchasing your exclusive copy of "Onboard with the Duke".

Regarding The Wild Goose. USS YMS-328 is a decommissioned US Navy Yard Mine Sweeper (YMS), built at Ballard Marine & Railway in Ballard, Washington. Her hull is constructed completely of 3" vertical grain Douglas fir. Sister ships include Jacques Cousteau's Calypso.
After serving in the Navy in World War II the boat was converted to a private yacht. In 1962, she was bought by John Wayne and went through a major renovation. Wayne changed her name to Wild Goose, and kept the ship for the last 17 years of his life. He entertained a who's-who of the time, including Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. Wild Goose was extensively featured in the 1968 film Skidoo.
The vessel is still in operation for dinner cruises in Newport Beach, by Hornblower Cruises. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 19, 2011.
