Location. 41° 56.003′ N, 87° 50.591′ W. Memorial is in River Grove, Illinois, in Cook County. It can be reached from Thatcher Avenue south of Belmont Avenue. The marker is in the southern portion of St. Joseph Cemetery, near sections in LL and Q that are dedicated to military veterans and a little bit west of the garden crypts. It is about ½ a mile west of the cemetery's Thatcher Avenue entrance, and ½ a mile south of its Belmont Avenue entrance. Touch for map. More about this memorial. According to the 2019 book Illinois Military Monuments, this memorial to 25 local residents who died in World War I was originally erected in 1920 by River Grove American Legion Post 335, in front of its building on Grand Avenue. It was later moved to the cemetery, where it sits in front of a section devoted to veterans of many wars. Several other memorials dedicated to River Grove veterans of later wars can be found about a mile southeast of here in front of River Grove's municipal building.
