1. St. Charles Parish Bird's Eye View Marker
Inscription. Bird's Eye View. Looking upriver, this watercolor depicts the St. Charles Church Presbytery, Little Red Church and Ormond Plantation. Many other plantations can be seen across the Mississippi River, all in the heart of St. Charles Parish. This visual provides a fascinating glimpse of the pre-Civil War era in St. Charles. A train appears headed north to Baton Rouge, a novel method of transportation. Two steamboats plow the Mississippi River, one with the initials C. D. J. (Celestin Dalfres, Jr.) whose unrivaled boat was known for its luxury features.
