1. Ormond Plantation Marker
Inscription. This watercolor depicts two iconic symbols of Antebellum Louisiana, a planters house and a paddle-wheel boat. Upriver of Little Red Church stands Ormond Plantation seen here in 1859 and known to have been spared destruction by the Civil War. Destrehan Plantation, Red Church's downriver neighbor, was also spared destruction by the Civil War, but it is interesting to note that no watercolor was found of Destrehan Plantation in Father Paret's sketchbook. Today, Ormond Plantation and Destrehan Plantation remain standing sentinel to St. Charles Borromeo Church along the Mile of History, just as they both have been for centuries. The ancient live oaks on these three properties speak to their unique bond.
