Inscription. Father Paret lived here from December 1848 to October 1869, serving parishioners from the Golden Antebellum Age to Reconstruction, a privileged witness to profound changes in all of society. Men are seen gathering driftwood from the Mississippi River to be sold for firewood, a tradition which continued into the Twentieth Century.
