One of Salem's first saloons operated in this building at the turn of the century. The owner/operator of the saloon was James Lafayette Chambers. He was also a Sheriff of Dent County in the years 1894 and 1896. From 1952-1958, Hazel and Bob Polk (mother and son) had "Polk's Cafe". Ruby Davis had "Davis Cafe" from 1958-1969. There have been many other businesses throughout the years such as Daylight Donuts, Woodward Cafe, Spring Creek Cafe, a music recording studio, and Ragan's Bakery.
