Inscription. Signed at the All-Star break, future Hall of Famer Pedro Martínez went seven innings with nine strikeouts and no walks as he outdueled San Franciscs's Tim Lincecum in a 2-1 Phillies win. Ten days later, Martínez threw 130 pitches over eight shutout innings as the Phillies beat the Mets, 1-0, on ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball."
