1. Morgan Park Marker

Inscription. Morgan Park was the first planned Black suburb in Baltimore city. In 1917, Morgan State University President Dr. John O. Spencer envisioned Morgan Park as a community for Black faculty and professionals barred from purchasing homes in nearby white neighborhoods by restrictive Jim Crow segregation laws. The Park was home to such notables, scholars, and activists as W.E.B. DuBois, Carl Murphy, Roland C. McConnell, Rebecca Carroll, and Edward P. Hurt.
