1. America's First Delicious Apple Marker
Inscription. Winterset, Iowa is home to the first tree bearing apples called "Delicious." Discovered in the 1870's, this variety grew from a chance seedling out of row with the other apple trees Jesse Hiatt had planted.

Six years later, the tree produced quality fruit which caused Hiatt to exclaim to his wife, "My, this is the best apple in the whole world!" The rights to propagate this popular eating apple were purchased in 1894 and people all over the country have enjoyed eating fed delicious apples ever since!
