Le caribou solitaire
Le père Thomas Nangle, aumônier du Royal Newfoundland Regiment, supervise l'établissement de 16 cimetières et dirige la construction de 5 monuments commémoratifs en France et en Belgique. Le caribou solitaire en bronze du sculpteur anglais Basil Gotto, érigé sur un monticule rocheux, veille sur Gueudecourt, Monchy-le-Preux, Masnières, Courtrai et Beaumont-Hamel. L'emblème du régiment jette son regard dans la direction empruntée par les soldats du 1st Newfoundland Regiment. Un sixième caribou impose sa présence dans le parc Bowring à St. John's.

The Solitary Caribou
Father Thomas Nangle, chaplain of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, supervised the establishment of sixteen cemeteries and five commemorative monuments in France and Belgium. At Gueudecourt, Monchy-le-Preux, Masnières, Courtrai and Beaumont-Hamel, a solitary bronze caribou by the English sculptor Basil Gotto stands atop a stone or cairn. This regimental emblem faces the direction taken by the soldiers of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. A sixth caribou stands in Bowring

Der einsame Karibu
Unter Leitung von Frater Thomas Nangle, dem Militärgeistlichen das Royal Newfoundland Regiment, wurden in Frankreich und Belgien sechzehn Friedhöfe angelegt und fünf Mahnmale errichtet. In Gueudecourt, Monchy-le- Preux, Masnières, Courtrai und Beaumont-Hamel steht jeweils ein von dem englischen Bildhauer Basil Cotto geschaffener Karibu aus Bronze auf einem Steinhaufen. Diese Wahrzeichen des Neufundländer Regiments blicken in die Richtung, die einst das Royal Newfoundland Regiment einschlug. Ein sechster Karibu steht im Bowring Park in St John's.
