Inscription. In a 19-inning, 5-4 win against the Reds, infielder Wilson Valdez became the first Phillies position player ever to win a game as a pitcher. He was also the first position player in MLB history to start a game and then earn the win as a pitcher since Babe Ruth did so in 1921.
