secretary in both France and New York, before she returned to the ministry in Oslo and became bureau chief in 1971. The following year, she became the first woman to become a counselor at the Norwegian embassy in Paris. Kirsten Ohm worked from 1975-81 as ambassador at Norway's permanent representation at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. She was the first female ambassador in the Norwegian foreign service, and later also served as ambassador in Dublin.
