Canadian Pacific Railway Log Houses - circa 1928
Inscription.
circa 1928
These log homes were built for Canadian Pacific Railways officials. A closer look at the houses reveals a unique form of saddle-notch construction. Wood for these homes was obtained locally. the park's last commercial logging berth, located in the Amiskwi Valley, was logged until the late 1960's.
Vers 1928
CPR was the largest employer in Field until 1952, when diesel-electric engines replaced more labour intensive steam locomotives. Train maintenance work that once required a crew of 39 could now be accomplished by nine men. Today, Field is a switching point for train crews who layover here before returning to Calgary or Revelstoke.
