The Hospitals of Monett

The Hospitals of Monett. . Monett has been home to four hospitals since its founding. Dr. West's hospital was first established in 1914 and was the first hospital in Monett. It housed 18 beds by the time it closed around world war one. After world war one, Dr. West later reopened his hospital. Soon after the reopening, he moved into a new house, taking the hospital with that move. After 27 years of active service he closed his third hospital which he built on the corner of Benton and Lincoln in Monett. Later, he then gave the hospital to Vincentian Sisters of Charity on Nov. 19, 1943. The St. Vincent's Hospital was first opened on Jan. 14, 1944. The hospital opened with 18 beds. It also had a chapel, delivery room, and nursery. The hospital was updated a decade later and a dedication of the St. Vincent Hospital took place on April 2, 1954. This hospital had 60 beds. A few years later, there was a 40 bed addition to the hospital and it replaced Dr. West's original hospital. In 1993, St. Vincent's became CoxHealth. In 2019, CoxHealth raised $7 million dollars and opened a new 75,000 square foot hospital with more advanced technology on the east side of Monett. , Written by: Owen Spears and Kylene Williams , This sign was created by students under the direction of Monett High School Missouri Literature and Composition teacher Amy M.
