1. Isaac McCoy Hall Marker

Inscription. Built in 1937, this Classical Revival building originally constructed as a men's dormitory is named for prominent Baptist missionary Isaac McCoy, who founded the first Baptist church of Oklahoma, Muscogee Baptist Church, Ebenezer Station, just north of Muskogee on September 9, 1832. The cornerstone was laid February 6, 1937 by John Collier, United States Commissioner of Indian Affairs, and dedicated May 4, 1937 by Dr. George W. Truett, President, Baptist World Alliance. The architect was H.H. Nieman. The lobby was furnished by Patrick J. Hurley in memory of John Hart Scott, D.D., President of Bacone College, 1897-1905. Inscribed on a bronze plaque inside is: "Rev. Isaac McCoy, born Uniontown, Pennsylvania, June 17, 1784; died Louisville, Kentucky, June 21, 1846; for thirty years as a Baptist missionary his entire time and energies were devoted to the civil and religious improvement of the Indian Tribes of this country. He counted not his life dear unto himself, but endured perils and privations for the sake of the Indians whom he loved and for whom he toiled with apostolic faith and fervor.
