Monett Cave. . In the early 1900s, it was well known that there was a cave underneath the current Monett City Park Casino. In 1918, it was reported in the Monett Weekly Times that they were referring to the cave as a quarry. Logan McKee was studying the cave and legend has it that he took a boat down into the cave to see how far it went. He reported that within the first few 100 feet there were 10 drop offs that were very deep. He speculated, but never confirmed, that the cave traveled all the way to Piece City. Another report about the cave stated that under the water in the cave it is believed that there were deep crevices. Before the cave closed, the city used it as a trash dump, and it was also reported that kids would go down there and get hurt.
