1. Our Community Welcomes You Marker
The Parmer Park before you is the cherished product of a community effort that was first considered in September of 2009 when the Burlington Rotary Club approached the Burlington City Council with the suggestion of refurbishing the existing rocket-themed playground equipment. After evaluating many different opinions and consulting with experts, it was determined that the existing playground equipment that had served our community for 40 years could not be repaired and brought up to existing safety codes.
In December 2010, the Burlington Rotary Club and the City of Burlington joined together to make this dream a possibility, which would ensure generations of children a fun and safe place to play. The cooperative endeavor began with an initial investment of $50,000 from both the City of Burlington, using lottery funds, and the Burlington Rotary Club, using funds from the Rooster Roundup Fundraising event that is held each year with the support of local farmers who donate the use of their land for pheasant hunting.

In a final fundraising push for Parmer Park Project - 2012, The Burlington Rotary Club, through fundraising events and the generosity of many local businesses and individuals, raised the additional funds necessary to complete what we never imagined would be our "Million Dollar" rocket park. The community-build approach was embraced by both the City of Burlington and the Burlington Rotary Club. The employees of the City of Burlington completed the walking trail, the shade pavilion, the Cooper-Clark Pavilion, the splash park, the entertainment pavilion and most of the electrical requirements.
