The marker is visible here on the corner of the building.
Harriet Backer, born in Holmestrand, came to Christiania (Oslo) aged 12. She took the teacher training course at the Nissen school and at the Eckersbergs painting school. In 1874 she finished at Knud Bergslien's painting school and moved abroad. In 1889 she moved from Paris to Hansteens gate. So did fellow painter Asta N๘rregaard. Harriet Backer ran a painting school until 1909 when the Academy of Fine Arts opened.

In 1890, Backer saw the Tanum church for the first time, and she painted eight pictures of the church. "Baptism of children in Tanum church" is considered her main work. In 1908 she received the King's medal of merit in gold, an artist's award in 1921 and the Order of St. Olav in 1925. On her 85th birthday, she was honored by artists with a torchlight procession from Tullinl๘kka to Hansteens gate.
