Diamond Springs Original Station

Reverse
"Diamond Springs" was one of the original relay stations of the 1860-1861 Pony Express. This is where a rider would exchange horses and then continue his ride. This station consisted of a rectangular stockade made of cedar logs with four other buildings being part of the stockade walls. The opening into the stockade was made between two of the buildings which faced the trail about 200 feet south. The station was on the south bank of the river.
Sir Richard Burton visited this site on August 11, 1860 at 9:15 pm. and mentioned the dragon-fly and fire-fly that he called "lightning-bug".
