More about this marker. The statue was dedicated on December 17, 2023, with McGraw herself on hand. She is the first female coach to be honored with a statue at Notre Dame.

The statue was designed by Massachusetts-based sculptor Ann Hirsch, whose other works include the Bill Russell Legacy Project in Boston, dedicated to the former Boston Celtics basketball star.

Karen Keyes, cited on the plaque for donating the statue, was a 1991 Notre Dame graduate who played basketball under McGraw; her husband Kevin was a tennis player for the Irish. In 2015, the two donated $5 million to endow the head coaching position for Notre Dame's women's basketball program.
