1. Coal Reclamation Business Marker
Inscription. Before building the Fort Hunter Station in 1929, the W. F. Martin family operated one of the largest coal reclamation businesses in Harrisburg on this site. Steam powered dredges on barges would ply the Susquehanna River picking up coal from the river bottom that had washed down during processing in the northern regions of Pennsylvania. The coal was removed from the barges, stockpiled on this location, and sold at a profit for heating and cooking.
