Haire Wealth Management Green Space
Downtown Tupelo
Haire Wealth Management Green Space is a cooperative project between the City of Tupelo Public Works Department and Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association. It is an art inspired reuse of a once very utilitarian site for downtown. One of the city's first water pumps was located here as well as the city's first TVA substation. Two distinct areas within this space pay homage to this past by representing these utilities and how they coexist with the natural landscape. The first is "Water" inspired by a brick pump house that enclosed the turbine pump that remains in it's original location. The focal point is a "Water Drop" sculpture which draws attention to this resource. A reclaimed brick plaza and previous concrete allow water to seep back into the site minimizing runoff. Native vegetation reduces the need for maintenance. The second is "Energy" inspired by mystery and starkness of electricity. The focal point is a series of "Electrical Outlets". Making one think about where electricity comes from and how it is used. Centered in-between both areas is the grass mound representative of the earth and how it is connected to both resources and impacted by both.
Erected 2011 by City of Tupelo Public Works Department.
