1. Military Road Marker

Inscription.

Ft. Leavenworth to Ft. Kearney. In 1845, Col. Stephen Kearney and 280 dragoons opened this route by locating a ford on the 25 yard-wide Blue River and grading approaches in its steep 25 foot high banks. Iin 1849, Lt. Col. William Loring and his regiment of mounted riflemen reached the Blue on their way to Oregon.
