Mary L. Landis moved to New Cumberland in 1962. She was widely known for her civic activities. Mary served on Borough Council for over 30 years and was Vice President. Closely affiliated with the New Cumberland Public Library, she was librarian, conductor of children's activities and a strong advocate and leader of the library's Foundation House, organizing fundraisers and hosting book reviews.

Twice President of the New Cumberland Women's Club, Mary was an instrumental figure in the annual Apple Festival with her enduring practice of culinary excellence. Her life long, selfless devotion to serving others was exemplary and beneficial to countless people.

Mary was a paragon of community service and has been awarded a place on The Path of Leadership in The Peiffer Memorial Arboretum and Nature Preserve, August 21, 2021.
