1767-1845
Seventh President of the United States and Hero of the Battle of New Orleans, Andrew "Old Hickory" Jackson was born in Waxhaw's section of Lancaster County and is buried at the Hermitage, in Tennessee.
J. Marion Sims
1813-1883
Born near Heath Springs. Dr. Sims opened his first medical practice in Lancaster.The "Father of Modern Gynecology." He founded the Women's Hospital of New York and served as personal physician to the Empress of France & Queen Victoria of England.

Elliott White Springs
1896-1959
World War I flying ace and well-known author, Col. E.W. Springs who grew up in the former Lancaster City Hall merged the cotton mills in Lancaster, Chester, Kershaw and Fort Mill to form the Springs Cotton Mills, which has become Springs Industries.
Nina Mae McKinney
1912-1967
A stage actress and movie star of the 1930's. She spent her childhood days in Lancaster. Her best known performances were Sanders of the River, Hallelujah and Pinky with Ethel Waters.
Charles M. Duke, Jr.
1935-0000
The 10th man to walk the face of the moon. He was a member of NASA's Apollo 16 mission. With fellow astronaut John Young, he drove the Lunar Roving Vehicle while collecting lunar samples.
