a common meeting place. When the former house was completed in 1907, it was the second assembly house of this type in Norway, after the Folkets Hus in Bergen from 1901. Eventually the house became too small. However, the expansion plans were put on hold when the building was occupied during the war, but in 1957 it was demolished, and the plans for a new People's House were implemented with Knut Knutsen as architect. In 1989, the quarter became complete, with a new congress centre. The name was changed to Oslo Kongressenter Folkets Hus BA.
