1. Cotton Street Neighborhood Marker
Inscription. During one of his visits to Marks, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. visited families who lived on Cotton Street and Sims Street. Dr. King was overcome with emotion and wept after seeing the poor conditions in which the families lived. Many believe that Dr. King's experience while visiting the Cotton Street Neighborhood is what inspired him to take up the fight against poverty and economic injustice. (Marker Number 4.)
