1. SCLC Office Marker
Inscription. In March 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. returned to Marks and began organizing the Poor People's Campaign. Dr. King met with members of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and other local leaders at the local SCLC office, which was set up in a house at the corner of Third Street and Denton Avenue in Marks. Prior to his death, Dr. King had made plans to stay in this home during the Mule Train events. (Marker Number 5.)
