1. St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church Marker
The first church in White Bear Lake was built in Cottage Park in 1861 on the site of the present Episcopal Cemetery. Originally erected by local citizens and Native Americans with money raised by Mr. & Mrs. John Aubrey.
In 1874, the church was moved across the frozen lake on a platform of logs. With a system of blocks and tackle and timbers it was slowly moved up the hill side to the street level.
Finally, it was placed at the new location at First and Clark Ave.
The picturesque old church was torn down in 1925 and replaced with the present building in 1926.
