Pope Saint Pius X
1835 – Born Joseph Sarto, second child in a family of ten, at Riese in Italy.
1858 – Ordained a priest for the diocese of Treviso and served there successively as curate pastor rector of the seminary, chancellor and vicar-general.
1893 – Created a cardinal and named patriarch of Venice.
1903 – Elected Supreme Pontiff and crowned Pope Pius X.
1914 – Died at the outbreak of World War I.
1954 – Canonized by Pope Pius XII in the Marian Year.

Regarding Pope Saint Pius X. Pius was known for rejecting modernism in the church, and for his piety and devotion to living a life of personal poverty.

Pius's hometown of Riese was part of the Austrian Empire when he was born in 1835. After his death the town was renamed in his honor as Riese Pio X. He is also honored with a statue at Saint Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.
