Inscription.
Benedictine Nun
Herald of Divine Love

St. Gertrude understood as few humans have, the tremendous love of Jesus Crhist for us, and she demonstrated and explained for us the great love that we should return to him.

St. Gertrude was the perfect lover of Christ. Her soul had no other will, no other thought, no other life than our Lord. This unlimited abandonment to the divine will even when most severe brought her perfect peace of heart and a boundless desire for the glory of God and the salvation of the world. Yet withal she discharged her earthly occupations with becoming care for she had the happy faculty of combining active labor and interior union with God.

Our Lord made numerous appearances to Saint Gertrude—once favoring her with the special grace of the stigmata—the impression of his sacred wounds upon her heart. In the excruciating physical pain she endured thereafter was the message of our Lord which she showed in her life—the great value of our sufferings if they are united with his sufferings in his passion.

St. Gertrude’s single-minded devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as the fountain of God's love made her the first promoter of devotion to the Sacred Heart—a devotion that blossomed forth fully in the sixteenth century with the work of another holy nun, Margaret
