Inscription. [Plaque at base of statue:]
Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, a visitation nun of exceptional humility and obedience, was chosen by our Lord himself to rekindle the dying flames of divine love in seventeenth century France and to promote devotion to his sacred heart, the symbol of his love for mankind. In an apparition to Saint Margaret Mary at the Convent of Paray-le-Monial in France in 1675, our Lord revealed his heart and spoke this message to her.
"Behold this heart which has loved mankind so much and which receives only ingratitude and coldness in return for its love. My desire is that you should make reparation to my heart for this ingratitude and induce others also to make reparation."

I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings. VI. Sinners shall find in my heart the source and the boundless ocean of mercy. VII. Tepid souls shall grow fervent. VIII. Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection. IX. I will bless every place where a picture of my heart shall be exposed and honored. X. I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts. XI. Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in my heart never to be blotted out. XII. I promise thee in the excessive mercy of my heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who communicate on the first Friday of the nine consecutive months the grace of final repentance. They shall not die in my disgrace nor without receiving

Regarding Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque. Margaret Mary Alacoque is credited with popularizing the Catholic devotion of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which she said she learned from an apparition of Jesus she received in France in 1675. A statue to an earlier devotee to the Sacred Heart, Saint Gertrude, can be found here at Queen of Heaven Cemetery a short walk away from this statue of Saint Margaret Mary.
