This Japanese-style garden opened in 1966, a time of heightened interest in Japanese art and culture in the US. It includes elements of four different types of Japanese garden: a strolling garden, a stream and pond garden, a tea garden and a raked-gravel (sometimes called Zen) garden.

Get away from it all in a Japanese-style garden that reflects local history as well as timeless visions of beauty.

Peak blooming season: November-March.
Entire blooming season: October-May.
Collection highlights: Tucked beneath the live oak canopy, many of the plants in this garden originated in Asia, including camellias, black pines, mondo grass, flowering cherry trees and Japanese maples.
Visit March-April to see spring blossoms, October-November to see fall colors.
