Esplanade Gaston-Monnerville
1934
The Avenue de l'Observatoire is occupied over its entire central part by a series of gardens, including this esplanade. The observatory was built under Louis XIV in 1672, by the architect Claude Perrault, who used neither iron, so as not to influence the magnetic needle, nor wood for fear of fire. The esplanade has been renamed Esplanade Gaston-Monnerville, in honour of the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Republic (1947-1958) and of the Senate (1958-1968).
Erected by Ville de Paris.
