Inscription. The F-84F Thunderstreak was an advanced, swept-wing design built from the straight-wing F-84 "Thunderjet." The rich history of the Thunderstreak includes combat action over the skies of Korea and becoming one of the first fighter aircraft in the USAF to carry a nuclear payload. From 1955 to 1956, the F-84F was flown by the USAF Thunderbirds Aerobatic Team. The F-84F was also one of the first aircraft to be modified for in-flight refueling with the addition of an external refueling probe. Modification of the F-84F led to the creation of the RF-84F "Thunderflash" photo reconnaissance platform. The F-84F remained in use by the Air National Guard until 1971. The last operational RF-84F, in use by Greece, was retired from service in 1991. The F-84 aircraft series left a significant legacy of performance and service to the USAAF and the USAF.
