This nine ton anchor once proudly served the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Langley (CVL-27) while in active service of World War II in the Pacific and European Theaters, receiving nine Battle Stars, after commissioning on 31 August 1943.

The anchor chain surrounding this anchor was acquired and presented to S.S. Samuel Parker Chapter, American Merchant Marine Veterans, through the efforts of Michael Sacco, President of Seafarers International Union AFL-CIO.

This is dedicated to all civilian seafarers who work and make their living on the ships of the United States Merchant Marine in peace and war.
