Inscription.
This log home was originally built by Ray Roberts and his family with the help from local friends and neighbors in 1949. The cottonwood logs were harvested at Kings River and milled on the Roberts' property. The interior of the home was very modern for its time including flooring and countertops that were shipped to Alaska. Ray was a great carpenter and constructed three homes in the neighborhood.

In the early 1950's Ray sold the home to Phil and Jean O'Neill, who had a cement basement with walk-in freezer installed. Phil also added the fireplace and chimney, as well as converted the garage to a den. This den is now the Sutton Visitor's Center.

Phil was a community-oriented person and was instrumental in bringing electricity to the Sutton area. Phil and Jean facilitated a land exchange with the Mat-Su Borough so that this property would become a community park. In 1984 the non-profit Alpine Historical Society (AHS) was formed to preserve local history and in 1985 the land exchange occurred and the Alpine Historical Park was founded and managed by AHS.
