This property possesses national significance for its ability to illustrate the history of owner-operated farms in the Southeastern United States in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. From the establishment in 1881 through the mid-20th century, farmers such as the Dudley family endeavored to produce much of their own food on the farm in addition to engagement in commercial agriculture and the implementation of government programs to reform southern agriculture.
