1. C-131A (T-29B) "Samaritan" Marker

Inscription. The C-131A was equipped for casualty evacuation and the airlift of either litter or ambulatory patients. The C-131A could accommodate a maximum of 27 litter or 32 ambulatory patients. It was first delivered to the Military Air Transport Service on April 1, 1954 and was responsible for the aeromedical evacuation of thousands of sick and wounded military personnel. Many were brought to Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center. The C-131A was one of several aircraft used by the 375th Aeromedical Airlift Wing in domestic and Intratheater Military Airlift Command Systems. A total of 26 C-131A aircraft were built. The C-131A "Samaritan," designed for aeromedical evacuation, is represented by this T-29B, from which the C-131 was developed. It was the first of the Convair 240/340/440 series to be produced for the U.S. Air Force.
