Inscription. Aaliyah was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1979 but moved with her family to Detroit when she was very young. She first gained recognition at the age of ten when she appeared on Star Search. After signing with Jive and Blackground Records, she released her first hit album, "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number" in 1994. After issuing a second hit album, "One in a Million," Aaliyah appeared in two major films, Romeo Must Die and Queen of the Damned. Shortly after releasing her third album, "Aaliyah," in 2001, she was tragically killed in a plane crash after completing a video shoot in the Bahamas. Aaliyah was inducted into the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame in 2021.
