Bay City in Bay County, Michigan — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
Art Around The City
This scene depicts artist W.E. Wright's vision of Bay City in 1882 as seen looking south from the Third Street Bridge. Mr. Wright depicts a busy port town with vessels of all size and function from tugs and barges to schooners and large side-wheel excursion vessels. In 1882 Bay City and West Bay City (on right) have all the hallmarks of a successful lumbering town: tugs towing rafts of logs, lumber mills, stacks of lumber, loaded barges, and salt derricks to capitalize on another abundant natural resource.
