Lansing in Ingham County, Michigan — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
Scott Sunken Garden
In 1907, on the corner of what is now S. Washington Avenue and Malcolm X Street, stood the former residence of Michigan Supreme Court Justice Edward Cahill. That year, Richard H. Scott, former president of REO Motor Car Company, purchased the residence and the adjacent property. Scott then razed the house and in 1934 used its foundation to construct the Sunken Garden.
Renovations to the garden were made by the Garden Club of Greater Lansing in 1985 and 1992.
The garden was then relocated stone by stone to its current location in 2018 as part of the construction of the Lansing Board of Water & Light's Central Substation.
