The Scott Mansion
The stately home (pictured right), that once stood on this site was originally built by James R. Elliot in 1905. In 1907, Richard Scott (former president of REO Motor Car Company) purchased the home along with the adjacent property including the former home of Michigan Supreme Court Justice Edward Cahill. Soon after, Scott razed the Cahill residence and in 1934 used its foundation to begin construction on a sunken garden for his beloved wife, Gertrude. Richard Scott died in 1944, but Gertrude continued to live in the home until 1965. At the age of 89, for fear that the home would fall into disrepair, she had it razed. Gertrude Scott died in 1969, and after her death, the Scott family donated the property to the City of Lansing leading to the creation of Scott Park.

The Jenison House
In 1952, the Orien A. Jenison home at 915 Townsend St. was acquired by the City of Lansing. In 1979, the Jenison House was moved to the Scott Park site as seen in the photo below. In 2017, the Jenison House was demolished. to make way for the construction of the Lansing Board of Water & Light Central Substation.
