1. Candy Factory Marker

Inscription.

For more than 50 years, mouth-watering chocolates and other sweet treats rolled off the production lines of this candy factory.

Gurley's Candy was a local firm, best known for its boxes of Hidden Treasures: chocolate-covered cherries, nuts and nougats.

Fanny Farmer bought the company in 1936 and grew the operation, with expansions to the building in 1948 and 1950. By that point, a newspaper article noted that this facility was making 125 different lines of candy, supplying stores in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and the Dakotas.

For Minnesota dairy farmers, this was one of their best customers, using 3,000 pounds of butter a week and 500 gallons of cream per day in the late 40s. The facility closed in 1972.
